RedZinc to roll out pilots in Portugal and Spain as part of the 5G-EPICENTRE project

RedZinc has won a contract to pilot real-time video for emergency response services across 5G networks. RedZinc’s wearable, mobile, point-of-view, wireless video service platform BlueEye, will be piloted between hospitals and emergency response services in the 3 European cities of Barcelona, Aveiro and Malaga on a 5Gnetwork in 2022 and 2023. The video service will test network slicing and ultra-reliable low latency communication using the 5G-EPICENTRE network.

Public protection and disaster relief

5G-EPICENTRE project aims to deliver an open end-to-end experimentation 5G platform focusing on software applications for public protection and disaster relief (PPDR). There are over 1.5 million public safety users today. 5G transformational technologies will revolutionise the way they perform their life-saving work. 5G and Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) gives better, faster video

BlueEye pilots over the experimental 5G network will lead to a faster delivery of emergency video services, will develop the BlueEye suite of products for emergency services to European telecommunications standards and will ultimately help save lives in emergencies. BlueEye will use 5G and Edge cloud benefits for real-time video which will be

  • distributed to the edge of the network
  • better quality high bandwidth video
  • adjustable and scalable deployment
  • lower latency
  • prioritised traffic in a private slicing
  • regional and national IT governance

5G PPDR applications

A number of exciting use cases will be piloted in the project, such as wearable mobile video, multimedia communications, drone remote control, geo-location, AR and AI to help support delivery of emergency services. The project co-ordinator Airbus is delivering 5G services to the airline.

5G is a broadband wireless technology which can help deliver mission critical voice, data and video services in emergency situations. RedZinc is an SME partner in the project, contributing 5G expertise and PPDR-based trials to help deliver the real needs of emergency services in the future.
